Astros far apart on trade with Twins for Carlos Correa, according to insider image

The Houston Astros are looking to make a trade for an Isaac Paredes replacement, and are targeting three players as potential fits. While Eugenio Suarez and Nolan Arenado are interesting options, Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa is the most compelling.

However, according to ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan, the Astros and the Twins are far apart on a deal for Correa, and no deal is imminent or close.

"While the Houston Astros have interest in the Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa and there has been dialogue on a potential trade," Passan reports, "the sides are far apart at the moment and no deal is closer, sources tell ESPN."

Houston and Minnesota have been in contact about a potential deal, and even though Correa has a no-trade clause, the expectation is that he'd waive it to go to the Astros.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today also reported on the Astros' interest in Correa, with their owner, Jim Crane, open to the two sides reuniting at the trade deadline for a World Series push this season.

But this report from Passan pours cold water on a potential Correa to Houston trade. At least, for now. While the trade isn't close, there is still time left for Houston to work out a deal with the Twins to land their former franchise icon.

Correa hasn't been at his best offensively this season, with a .704 OPS through 93 games. Moving him from shortstop to third base, where he hasn't played in his big league career, might also be a tough task for the 30-year-old veteran, even if he's open to the move.

But the Gold Glove and Platinum Glove Correa is someone the Astros could trust with making the transition from shortstop to third base.

Correa is open to waiving his no-trade clause to join the Astros, and is open to being the team's third baseman, according to Nightengale. But even so, the two sides are apart on a deal.

Passan's report indicates that while there's mutual interest in a deal, as the two sides have discussed, a trade isn't close, and the two sides remain far apart on a Correa trade. For now, a deal isn't close, but there's still time for the two sides to work out a trade.
