The Detroit Tigers are one of the best teams in Major League Baseball and will look to be aggressive on the trade front ahead of the deadline.

Detroit has a couple of needs, but one of the biggest needs is to add a bat. MLB analyst TJ French of Heavy proposed a deal that would see the Tigers acquire Marcell Ozuna from the Atlanta Braves.

Tigers acquire:

  • Marcell Ozuna

Braves acquire:

  • Parker Meadows
  • Thayron Liranzo
  • Troy Melton

“Ozuna would complete that Detroit lineup that features a plethora of strong lefty hitters like Kerry Carpenter, Riley Greene, and Colt Keith,” French wrote. “And as noted previously, the Tigers likely have World Series aspirations, but most would say they could afford to make an addition or two to that lineup.”

Ozuna is in the final year of his four-year, $65 million deal and could be a trade candidate due to Atlanta being out of the playoff picture. The slugger would bolster Detroit’s offense as he’s hitting .253 with 11 home runs and 39 RBIs this season.

In return, Detroit would deal Meadows, who would replace Ozuna in the outfield, but he has struggled this season. He’s hitting .146 with 1 home run and 3 RBIs.

The big part of the return would be Liranzo, who’s the fifth-ranked prospect in the Tigers’ system. He’s a catcher/first baseman prospect who’s playing in AA and projects to reach the majors in 2026.

The final part of the return is right-handed prospect Troy Melton, who’s the 10th-ranked prospect. Melton is playing in Triple-A and could make the majors this season as a 24-year-old.
