Tigers trade proposal reunites A.J. Hinch with Alex Bregman amid Red Sox rumors image

The Detroit Tigers are the top team in the American League and have a seven-game lead in the AL Central. But while things are going well in Detroit, there are still ways for the Tigers to improve their roster. One such path is by adding a third baseman in the trade market.

With a need at third base, a very fitting option could become available if the Boston Red Sox keep losing. According to Dylan Sanders of Sports Illustrated, the Tigers could land Red Sox third baseman, and former player under current Tigers manager A.J. Hinch, Alex Bregman.

The Red Sox are amid a rough patch in their season, falling to nine games behind the New York Yankees for the AL East. They are also three games out of the third Wild Card spot, and could look to move some of their veterans if they keep losing.

A trade proposal for Bregman is one of the top options that could become available. Sanders writes, "It would not be a shock to see Boston become sellers at the trade deadline if they can't turn a real corner before then, which could put Bregman back on the market."

The Red Sox are in danger of falling out of the postseason hunt, and with a plethora of young and talented players waiting for consistent starting opportunities, moving on from Bregman for a decent haul makes sense.

In 2025, Bregman got off to a strong start. In just 51 games, he totaled 3.0 WAR and had an impressive stat sheet going. Across 197 at-bats, Bregman had 59 hits, 32 runs scored, 17 doubles, 11 home runs, 35 RBI's, 22 walks, and an OPS of .938. Before being placed on the 10-day injured list with a right quad strain, Bregman was playing like an MVP.

Bregman signed a three-year deal in the offseason worth $120 million, but he has an opt-out after 2025. If the Red Sox continue to falter, he could try to force his way out. Boston would likely oblige, as they could get decent value for the third baseman in the trade market. The Tigers, with a hole at third, could easily make room for Bregman.
