The Detroit Tigers can use more offensive additions, despite being the top team in the American League. The most pressing need for the team is at third base, and there is one player who stands out as being one of the best targets for the Tigers to go after at the MLB trade deadline.

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report pointed out that Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez would be perfect for the Tigers. "They're a perfect candidate to get in on Eugenio Suarez if the Arizona Diamondbacks pull the plug."

Rymer's last line, that if the Diamondbacks pull the plug, is the most important part of this potential trade. While the Diamondbacks lost Corbin Burnes for the year, they are still in contention for a Wild Card spot. If Arizona is still within striking distance at the MLB trade deadline, they may not move their top assets.

For the Tigers, that would mean Suarez, the player who's a perfect fit for the team, would not be available. The Tigers fans and front office now have to root for the Diamondbacks to lose, as their struggles could lead to Suarez being sent to Detroit.

Suarez is the perfect fit for Detroit because of how much offensive upside he provides. Across his long 12-year MLB career, he has 297 home runs. In 2025, he's still slugging home runs like the best in the league.

Through his first 258 at-bats of the 2025 season, Suarez has 60 hits, 43 runs scored, 13 doubles, and a ridiculous 21 home runs. His home run total is already tied for the eighth most he's had in a season, and he's only played 71 games, less than half of every other full-season Suarez has played in his career.

While he's been slugging, he has struggled to get on base. His batting average of .233 and his on-base percentage of .307 aren't great, but with a .527 slugging percentage, his OPS comes out to a very strong .834. If he could increase his on-base percentage, he could easily be one of the most dangerous hitters in baseball, if he already isn't considered one.

For Detroit, his immense slugging prowess makes him a perfect fit for the Tigers. It'd also be a full-circle moment for Suarez, and he began his career in 2014 with the Tigers, where in roughly the same amount of at-bats as he's had in 2025, he only hit four home runs.

Suarez is a power-hitting third baseman on an expiring deal, everything the Tigers are looking for in a trade target at the MLB trade deadline.
