Tigers' prospect soars up board in latest MLB Pipeline rankings image

As we get closer to the end of summer, the Detroit Tigers have put themselves in an excellent spot to close things out. They currently sit in first place in the American League Central, and they are starting to run away with that lead as the Cleveland Guardians try to stay within striking distance.

However, this is not the only thing that should have the fanbase jumping for joy. MLB Pipeline recently updated its prospects ranking list, with the club's 37th overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft having made a tremendous leap in the rankings. Kevin McGonigle is now the club's top prospect, surpassing the club's third overall pick in 2023, Max Clark.

He has played in 63 games in the minors this season, slashing .332/.428/.577 with nine home runs and 57 runs batted in. McGonigle is somebody who knows how to get on base, and his ceiling is high. This year alone, he has had six games with three-plus hits, and many insiders are quite high on him. Outside his smooth left-handed swing, the slugger also has a great eye at the plate, and he has good speed on the basepaths.

With McGonigle sitting as the No. 2 prospect and Max Clark as the No. 9, Detroit is only one of two teams with two prospects ranking within the top 10. The Pittsburgh Pirates are the other team with two prospects in the top 10, with Konnor Griffin sitting No. 1 and Bubba Chandler sitting No. 7.
