The https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/detroit-tigershttps://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/detroit-tigershave had one of their better season in recent memory. It's baseball, so there's going to be ups and downs during the long season, but Detroit sits comfortably atop the American League Central. With many All-Stars and ace Tarik Skubal, the Tigers have their sights set on a deep October run.
Detroit's bullpen hasn't been great as of late, and has lost the team a handful of games, but the team's offense is still explosive.
Led by Riley Greene, who has 28 home runs this season, the Tigers' offense ranks eighth in MLB this season in runs scored and ninth in total home runs.
Is Riley Greene the Future of Detroit?
In a recent article by Bleacher Report, Tigers' outfielder Riley Greene was named as Detroit's 'Face of the Franchise' for the future:
"But Riley Greene (when healthy) has been Detroit's star position player for three seasons running and should remain a massive piece of their puzzle, right up until he hits free agency a month after turning 28."
Greene is leading the Tigers in pretty much every offensive category this season, including home runs, RBIs, doubles, and hits.
The 24-year-old Greene's one Achilles heel, if you will, is strikeouts. He has 159 this season, and is on pace to lead MLB in that category.
If the Tigers are to make a deep playoff run, Riley Greene's at-bats are going to be under a magnifying glass, and Detroit will need more of the home runs, doubles, RBIs, and less of the swing and miss.
