With Nolan Jones struggling in right field for the Cleveland Guardians, and their other options being no better, the team needs to address the situation in right field. One of the ways they could do so is by acquiring a corner outfielder in the trade market.
Fortunately, there are some options available at the trade deadline. MLB.com writer Mark Feinsand connected Miami Marlins right fielder Jesus Sanchez to the Guardians as a potential fit. For the Guardians, Sanchez would slide right into right field, taking over for Jones after the failed experiment from the offseason.
Sanchez is a 27-year-old slugger who's turned into one of the Marlins' top hitters. In 2025, he had 47 hits, 22 runs scored, seven doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 28 RBIs, seven stolen bases, 20 walks, and 49 strikeouts in 184 at-bats.
His offensive production has been solid, as he has a 104 OPS+ and a .747 OPS on the season. Not only is Sanchez a solid hitter from the left side of the plate, but he's also under team control through the 2027 season. Cleveland would be getting a long-term solution in the right field at worst, and a potential trade asset down the road if things go south.
The fit between the two teams makes sense, as the Guardians are essentially desperate for a new right fielder. With the Marlins intending to sell a lot of their players, Sanchez could be one of those on his way out the door in Miami.
If he is available, the Guardians would likely be one of the teams most interested in the young slugger. Feinsand linking the Guardians to Sanchez makes a ton of sense, as Sanchez is one of the best right fielders to be available at the trade deadline, the highest priority for the Guardians to address if they end up as buyers.
