The Cleveland Guardians are 40-47 and have lost nine games in a row. Amid such a downward spiral, MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today gave an update trade deadline plan for the team.
"The Cleveland Guardians' offense continues to spiral," Nightengale writes, "Which should make them sellers at the trade deadline, losers of 22 of their last 28 games while scoring the fewest runs in MLB during that stretch."
With the offense completely disappearing, the Guardians have been on a major losing skid. After such a rough stretch, the Guardians are now six games out of a Wild Card spot, and 14.5 games behind the Detroit Tigers for the AL Central division lead.
The Guardians are not in great shape for a postseason hunt, and with the offense struggling at an MLB-worst clip, Nightengale's belief that the team will be sellers isn't far-fetched.

They'd have some pieces that could interest teams. From Emmanuel Clase to Carlos Santana, there are likely to be teams calling the Guardians for some of their trade deadline chips.
The offense in Cleveland has been terrible this season, and if nothing were to drastically change, this offense wouldn't have much of a chance in the postseason. Not every player has been bad, but other than Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan, the offense hasn't been good.
"While All-Stars Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan are hitting a combined .300 with a .818 OPS," Nightengale writes, "Everyone else is hitting .203 with a .615 OPS."
Cleveland's offense has been one of the worst in baseball this season, and lately, they've been the worst. With the offense in a complete downward spiral, the Guardians are trending towards being sellers at the MLB trade deadline.
