The Boston Red Sox hope their outfield is set for years to come.
With that in mind, they didn't worry about giving up a centerfield prospect to improve their MLB bullpen.
On Wednesday night, multiple reports indicated that Boston was acquiring Jorge Alcala in a trade. MassLive's Chris Cotillo was the first to report that Andy Lugo was the guy going back to Minnesota in the deal.
Lugo is a 21-year old from the Dominican Republic who is currently at High-A.
In 108 minor league games in 2024 across Single-A and High-A, Lugo stole 28 bases.
So far this season, Lugo has four homers and four steals in 171 plate appearances at High-A. His batting average is .265.

Lugo projects as a potential speed/defense option unless his bat continues to improve. This is already his season-high in home runs, so maybe he's starting to discover how to use his strength.
Lugo is listed at 6-foot, 160 pounds, but minor leaguers often gain weight and muscle out of the public eye before those measurements are updated.
The Twins will want to see whether Lugo's power numbers continue the rest of this season. If they do, it could be a better combination of power-speed than Boston expected Lugo to end up with.
Either way, he was probably expendable for the Red Sox, but it's not a bad get for the Twins in exchange for a guy with an 8.88 ERA this season.
