The Boston Red Sox called Brian Van Belle up to the major leagues earlier this week.

But before he could make his MLB debut, Van Belle was designated for assignment and subsequently traded away.

The Red Sox moved Van Belle to the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday in exchange for cash considerations.

Van Belle, 28, was an undrafted free agent after the shortened 2020 draft. The 6-foot-3 righty started his college career at Broward College before going to the University of Miami.

In 205 career innings at Triple-A, Van Belle has a 4.48 ERA.

This season, though, Van Belle has been a stud.

At Triple-A Worcester, Van Belle had a 2.29 ERA through 12 appearances (eight starts) with a 5-1 record. That goes with 41 strikeouts in 51 innings.

The Reds were looking for some pitching depth after Hunter Greene (groin/back) was injured.

Cincinnati initially assigned Van Belle to Triple-A Louisville, but he's on track to make his MLB debut sooner rather than later.

It'll just be for the Reds, not the Red Sox.
