The Boston Red Sox have surprisingly struggled in 2025 after a very busy offseason.
After signing Alex Bregman, Walker Buehler and Aroldis Chapman and also trading for Garrett Crochet, Boston is 34-36 and nine games back in the American League East.
They aren't far back in the Wild Card race, but they have struggled this season. Thus, they might be sellers at the trade deadline.
However, Jim Bowden of The Athletic pumped the brakes on that talk and said that Boston may try to find ways to fill needs.
"After subpar starts, the Braves, Red Sox and Rangers don’t appear to be postseason teams this year, but most in the industry believe they will make trades to try to improve their respective rosters for the rest of this season and next rather than being typical sellers," Bowden wrote.
"The Red Sox will try to deal one of their outfielders for starting pitching help and an upgrade at first base."

When Triston Casas went down for the remainder of the season, Boston all of a sudden had a hole at first base. Rafael Devers refused to move to first base, so they still need to find a way to fill that hole.
The starting rotation also needs work, so Boston could potentially look to trade one of their outfielders.
With Roman Anthony now in the Major Leagues, another outfielder might become expendable. It likely won't be Jarren Duran, but Gold Glove winner Wilyer Abreu could be on the block.
It will certainly be interesting to see what the Red Sox decide to do. If they can address these holes, they could potentially be a better team down the stretch.
