The trade deadline is fast approaching. By July 31, teams will have made trades to either bolster their rosters or sell off pieces to contending teams.

The Boston Red Sox are an interesting team. They were expected to be a clear contender in 2025, but are now 29-33 and nine games back in the American League East.

They are already receiving trade interest in a former All-Star. The San Diego Padres have shown interest in Jarren Duran.

Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer noted that if Boston does trade him, they can address other needs while clearing a spot for Roman Anthony, their top prospect.

"The 8.7 rWAR season he had amid his All-Star breakout last year is likely an outlier, and moving him would mean clearing the way for Roman Anthony. Ideally, it would also be a means to bring back pieces for the huge holes in the Red Sox's roster, one of which concerns a damning lack of right-handed thump," wrote Rymer.

Duran could bring back a haul for the Red Sox if they do trade him. It might make sense to at least listen to offers on him and see if they can bring back a right-handed power bat or two.

The 28-year-old All-Star is hitting .271/.317/.417 with four home runs, 34 RBI, 13 stolen bases and a .734 OPS.

Trading Duran wouldn't necessarily mean that Boston is punting on the 2025 season. Rather, it would be a way to address other needs and clear a spot for their top prospect, who is right on the cusp of the Major Leagues.

It might make sense to pull off a trade such as this, and it would be interesting to see what Boston can bring back for the All-Star outfielder.

It's also possible that the Red Sox aren't open for business concerning Duran. We'll see what they decide to do.
