The Boston Red Sox surprised the entire Major League Baseball world with a blockbuster trade on Sunday night.
The team sent slugger Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for pitchers Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison. The deal has not gone over well with Red Sox fans, and understandably so.
This isn't the first time the Red Sox have traded away a superstar and not gotten much in return. This deal brought back bad memories of the Mookie Betts trade for fans.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report listed the winners and losers of the deal and stated that the Red Sox got the short end of the stick.
"In addition to being the best hitter on the roster, Rafael Devers was not so long ago a symbol to Red Sox fans of the franchise's new-found commitment to winning," Miller wrote.
"Less than 30 months later, though, the Red Sox decision makers are trying to gaslight that turning point, acting like his attitude left them no choice but to trade him away for pennies on the dollar, even though we all watched them go out of their way to infuriate him with their offseason pursuits of Nolan Arenado and Alex Bregman, as well as their handling of the first base situation that arose when Triston Casas went down for the count."

The Red Sox have sent their fans mixed messages in recent years. They now appear to be backtracking on their commitment to winning.
While both sides share blame in the souring of the relationship, the Red Sox have once again traded their best player and received a less-than-stellar return package.
Now, fans are left wondering what the plan is for the organization. They still have Alex Bregman, but he could opt out at the end of the season.
If the Red Sox want to contend, they will need to make a big splash at the trade deadline in order to keep their momentum going from their recent five-game winning streak.
It will be interesting to see how the team responds to the move.
