The Boston Red Sox are reeling as of late. They have lost five games in a row and have fallen to 40-42 on the season.

They are within striking distance in the American League Wild Card race, but have fallen to seven games back of first place in the AL East. The trade deadline is approaching, and they have already traded Rafael Devers.

Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow was recently asked about his stance on the trade deadline and whether Boston would be buyers or sellers.

Breslow stated that if the deadline was today, Boston would not be sellers.

"We would be looking to improve our team for 2025. Because despite the fact that we haven’t been able to string together the consistent performance that we think we’re capable of, we’re still very much staring down a Wild Card chance. And nobody has really run away with the AL East. So, as we start to get healthy and we start to look externally about ways that can improve the team, we think we’ve got a good chance to make a deep postseason run," Breslow said.

The Red Sox surprised the entire Major League Baseball world when they shipped Devers out and acquired pitchers Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison from the San Francisco Giants.

But Breslow seems to believe there is still a chance for Boston to make some noise. Mathematically, there is still a chance, but the Devers trade resulted in a big loss.

Even so, there are ways Boston can improve its roster at the deadline. They could use another top-level starting pitcher to go alongside Garrett Crochet.

In addition, they could use some help at first base. Triston Casas is out for the season, and they could use a little more production out of that position if they want to make a run.

But it will be interesting to see how Boston operates at the deadline, especially after the Devers trade.

They might have a big move or two up their sleeves.
