Brisbane Bullets point guard James Batemon has become the first NBL player to score more than 50 points in a 40-minute match.

The American hit nine threes in his 51-point haul that saw the Bullets defeat Perth Wildcats 105-84 on Sunday.

Batemon's mammoth point total surpasses the 50 points scored by Chris Goulding for the Melbourne Tigers in 2014.

Incredibly, the 27-year-old has been a bench player of late, averaging 15.2 points through the last six matches.

Batemon was restored to the Bullets starting lineup on Sunday because of a hip injury to Casey Praher and produced a performance no one saw coming.

Even Batemon himself was surprised, admitting his level of nerves as he approached the 40-point mark.

"When I looked up the scoreboard and the most nervous I've ever been honestly in basketball was shooting that free-throw when I had 39," he said post-match.

"I was thinking, 'Man I'm about to get 40, I've never scored over 34.' That was crazy and once I got to 50 I knew it was good with the last free-throw.

"I can't really explain the feeling, I'm still up on a high right now and it's amazing the crowd kept giving me energy and the teammates. It was like I was in a movie, man, it was crazy."
