The Australian Boomers advance to the FIBA Asia Cup semi-finals, thanks to an 84-60 win over the Philippines.
The Aussies got out to a red-hot start led by Jaylin Galloway, burying seven of their first eight shots — all coming from beyond the 3-point line — to get out to a 22-8 lead, before going into the first break with a 17-point advantage.
They kept their foot on the gas going into the half with a 48-28 lead, maintaining a double-digit lead the rest of the way. The Philippines started to catch their groove in the third quarter, but Foxwell quickly put an end to that with back-to-back triples to restore the 20-point advantage
All five Boomers starters finished in double figures, led by Owen Foxwell, who scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half, and Jaylin Galloway, who finished with 15 points on a scorching 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.
Jack McVeigh chipped in 12 points, while Xavier Cooks recorded 10 points and seven boards. Will Magnay finished with 10 points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting, adding six rebounds, while Jack White did a little bit of everything, recording eight points, eight rebounds, and three blocks.
For the Philippines, Kevin Quiambao led the way with a team-high 17 points on 5-of-8 from the 3-point line, while Dwight Ramos added 15 points and seven rebounds.
The Boomers will now wait to find out their semi-final opponent — the winner of Iran and Chinese Taipei.
