Who won State of Origin last year? Results and lineups for NSW Blues and QLD Maroons during 2024 series image

New South Wales and Queensland are locking horns again this year in the showpiece State of Origin series.

The Blues have undergone a host of changes since 2024, employing a new coach in Laurie Daley, a new captain in Isaah Yeo and a new halves pairing following the return to fitness of Nathan Cleary.

Meanwhile, Maroons mentor Billy Slater in his fourth term in charge of his state with several fresh faces brought on board.

Under former coach Michael Maguire, NSW orchestrated a stunning comeback series victory to snatch the shield from QLD.

The Maroons battered the Blues in the opening fixture last year, following the early dismissal of Joseph Sua'ali'i for a high shot on Reece Walsh.

Taking advantage of the extra man, the visitors put on a show in Sydney to romp to a 38-10 win.

Ben Hunt grabbed his second of the night in the 66th minute to finally crack the Blues’ stubborn resistance in the second stanza.

The veteran’s four-pointer proved to be a game-changer as two more tries quickly followed from the Queenslanders to secure an impressive start to their campaign.

However, Maguire’s side responded to the setback in style at the MCG as they drew level thanks to a 38-18 victory.

The win was earned off the back of an incredible first-half performance, which rewrote the history books.

Liam Martin crossed in the 10th minute to kick off the rout, with five more tries ensuing as the Blues entered the sheds with an unassailable 34-0 lead.

Despite the hammering, Slater’s side headed into the decider in a confident mood due to their imposing record at Suncorp Stadium. After all, NSW hadn’t emerged victorious in a decider in their rival’s backyard since 2005.

Yet with the odds against them, Maguire’s outfit produced a display for the ages to shock the hosts 14-4.

The game was without a try after an hour of action during a tense affair, until Jarome Luai and Bradman Best combined down the left side to touch down.

Mitch Moses then delivered the hammer blow moments later with a try of his own to kick-start the celebrations.
