Manly Sea Eagles confirm surgery for star fullback Tom Trbojevic, will not feature again in 2019 image

Despite reports the contrary, Manly Sea Eagles fullback Tom Trbojevic will undergo surgery this week after tearing his pectoral muscle early in Saturday night's loss to the Melbourne Storm.

There had been plenty of speculation that the club and player were hoping to delay surgery in an attempt to have him return at some stage in the finals.

But on Monday the Sea Eagles confirmed via Twitter that the NSW Origin superstar would not feature again in 2019.

It is a massive blow for the club, who have been one of the form sides of the competition in recent months - but the loss of Trbojevic puts a massive dent in their premiership aspirations.

It is expected the 22-year old will be replaced by Brendan Elliott at fullback this weekend when they take on Parramatta at Bankwest Stadium.

Tom's brother Jake said earlier on Monday that it would be a 'long shot' for him to play in the finals no matter how far they went - and he was spot on.
