Tom Gilbert will miss the entire 2025 State of Origin series.

The forward has previously made two appearances for Queensland, but injury will yet again rule him out of Maroons contention.

Gilbert suffered a ruptured pectoral muscle against the Warriors at the weekend.

Despite the diagnosis, his club, the Dolphins, are optimistic he will return before the end of the NRL season.

He is forecast to miss 12 weeks of action, which could see him back in time for the last four matches of the campaign.

It is relatively positive news for the 25-year-old, who has spent significant periods on the sidelines.

He missed all of 2024 with a knee reconstruction and sat out a chunk of 2023 with a shoulder issue.

"These type of rehabilitations always have some variables, but if Tom was able to come back somewhere around that 12-week timeframe, he would certainly be in line to play some games at the back end of the season," Dolphins' head of performance, Jeremy Hickman, said.

"In previous seasons, he has shown how diligent he is with his rehabilitation, and that will also be a factor."

Gilbert joins a growing casualty ward at the Dolphins.

Jeremy Marshall-King and Daniel Saifiti are set to return in Round 14, while Max Plath and Thomas Flegler don't have recovery timelines.

Trai Fuller, meanwhile, could make his comeback from an ACL injury mid-way through the season
