The Titans' 20-18 defeat to the Rabbitohs left coach Des Hasler and captain Kieran Foran lamenting missed opportunities in a battle to avoid last place.

South Sydney's victory was built on Alex Johnston's two try effort, while the Titans failed to capitalise on an early lead.

The result leaves Gold Coast anchored at the bottom of the ladder, with Hasler adamant his side is better than their current position suggests.

"We’re a better side than where we are at the moment on the competition ladder, and that’s the part we have to fix," he said in the post-match press conference.

The game was in the balance late, however the Titans simply failed to land the killer blow when their chance arose.

"It was certainly there for us to win the game," said Hasler.

"We should have put that side away."

The veteran coach, who has had several run-ins with match officials this season, didn't want to blame the refereeing for his team's performance.

"I’m not going to get into the hypothetical’s, it doesn’t do anything. It doesn’t change anything. The only way it's going to change is if the commission decides to do it, or the NRL decides to do it," he said.

Foran echoed Hasler's sentiment, calling the loss "frustrating" given the Titans' early success and favourable field position at certain stages of the game.

"We should have been in control of that game of footy," said Foran.

"We should have played that game off the front foot and like we’ve done a number of times this season, we’ve found a way to let teams back in it.

"We find a way to either compound errors or penalties and swing the momentum back in their favour."

The Titans' inability to convert pressure into points has been a recurring theme in 2025, leaving the club in a perilous position.

With only a handful of games remaining, Gold Coast must quickly correct their mistakes if they are to climb off the bottom of the table.
