The rising R360 rebel rugby union competition is shaking up the sports world again, as Melbourne Storm front-rower Nelson Asofa-Solomona becomes the latest NRL figure to be linked to the breakaway league.
In just the past week, the rebel competition has become entwined with some of rugby league’s top talent, with star fullback Kalyn Ponga and Ryan Papenhuyzen both reportedly catching the eye of the rugby union league.
However, according to The Sydney Morning Herald, the New Zealand international star is the latest high-profile NRL star linked to a potential switch to the rebel R360 competition.
The two-time premiership winner, who first donned the Storm jersey as an under-20s player back in 2014, is currently contracted with the club through to the end of the 2027 season.

While the Melbourne front-rower hasn’t confirmed any interest in joining R360, the agent of New Zealand back-rower Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has publicly stated his client is open to making the bold leap to the breakaway competition.
“We've explored what is a developing competition called R360,” Sharrock said to The Sydney Morning Herald.
“It's been in the making for 12-18 months. Roger comes off his current NRL contract in 2026, and as part of that planning, I threw this in front of him and asked if he had any interest in this option.
"He said, ‘Why wouldn't I?' I've always encouraged all my players to look at all options, and that's where we are at right now."
The breakaway competition, still in its early stages, is reportedly set to launch in September 2026, featuring 30 players across 12 franchises competing in 16 matches at venues across Europe.
