State of Origin confirmed team lists: NSW and QLD lineups for Game 2 image

Queensland face a do-or-die trip across to the west coast when they take on New South Wales in Game II of the State of Origin series.

The Blues eased to a win in the opener in Brisbane to hand themselves a great shot at retaining the shield over Billy Slater's men.

In response to the 18-6 defeat in their own backyard, the Maroons have made a raft of changes, with the biggest one being the axing of captain Daly Cherry-Evans.

The Sporting News provides all the latest team news and lineups for Game II of the State of Origin series.

Maroons team news:

Kalyn Ponga was kept largely on the periphery during the Origin opener but has kept the No.1 jersey with Reece Walsh only returning from a knee injury last week.

Xavier Coates was one of his state's best players in Game I, crossing for his side's only try of the match as well as churning through a team-high 173 run metres.

Valentine Holmes will shift to the centres, with Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow moving to the wing in an interesting backline change.

Robert Toia was quality during his debut in the centres and managed to mostly keep his opposite number, Latrell Mitchell, quiet. For this reason, the rookie has held onto his spot.

Cameron Munster was largely ineffective in the contest as the spine was stuck behind a well-beaten forward pack. However, he has not retained his spot in the side while also being named as the state's new skipper.

Daly Cherry-Evans, meanwhile, has lost his No. 7 jersey. Slater has axed his captain and brought in Tom Dearden.

Moeaki Fotuaika's attitude in defence can't be questioned with the prop pulling off several big hits during the opening exchanges. But he will be expected to make more of an impact with the ball in Perth.

Despite a fresh sternum issue, Tino Fa’asuamaleaui is in line to start at prop after the Gold Coast enforcer made a solid return to the Origin arena after a year away due to injury, as he finished with 121 run metres and 30 tackles.

Harry Grant struggled during Game I after entering the contest undercooked due to a hamstring injury. He will be expected to put in a better performance in WA.

Reuben Cotter will play in the second row with the recalled Kurt Capewell

Jeremiah Nanai and Patrick Carrigan will come off the pine in Game II as Slater looks to limit the influence of NSW's bench. This notably sees Trent Loiero start at lock after a solid debut in Brisbane.

On the bench, Slater could have opted to fight fire with fire and bring in Corey Horsburgh, but it's the versatile Kurt Mann who is selected as a utility.

Lindsay Collins, who was eased back into action in Game I due to only just recovering from a knee injury, will remain on the pine.

Beau Fermor has missed the 17 on this occasion after making his Origin debut in Game I. The backrower featured for just 17 minutes but got heavily involved.

Jack Howarth and Ezra Mam join Horsburgh in the reserves after Jesse Arthars and Kulikefu Finefeuiaki were overlooked.

Blues team news:

Dylan Edwards won the race for the No.1 jersey ahead of former captain James Tedesco and justified his selection in the opener. The fullback bagged the match-sealing try, provided an assist and clocked 119 run metres.

Brian To'o was brought in off the back of limited match preparation due to injury, but was his usual impressive self. The Penrith flyer bagged a four-pointer as well as running for a game-high 225 metres.

On the opposite flank, Zac Lomax was also in stellar touch to continue his golden run in a Blues jersey as he bagged a double.

Stephen Crichton was a certainty to be selected ahead of the opener and proved why he is currently viewed as the best centre in the game.

Latrell Mitchell won the race for the other centre spot with Bradman Best ruled out through injury and Tom Trbojevic overlooked.

The Souths talisman produced a brilliant pass to send To'o over but will generally be looking for an improved performance in Game II.

Mitch Moses has been ruled out after suffering a calf injury in training, with Jarome Luai confirmed to slot in as his replacement. Matt Burton will remain 18th man.

Payne Haas and Mitch Barnett provided a perfect one-two punch up front. However, the latter has since been ruled out for the rest of the year after suffering an ACL injury in Round 13.

Max King is the man to take Barnett's starting spot after the Canterbury forward was solid off the bench with 106 run metres and 21 tackles in Game I.

This also sees Stefano Utoikamanu promoted to the pine after impressing for the Storm in recent weeks.

The Melbourne prop fought off stiff competition from Keaon Koloamatangi and Lindsay Smith, who have both been named in the extended squad, for the bench role.

Reece Robson beat Api Koroisau to the No.9 jersey and was as reliable as ever in the middle to secure his place in the side for Game II.

Liam Martin and Angus Crichton have retained their spots in the backrow, while skipper Isaah Yeo was one of his state's best in the opener.

Connor Watson provided an injection of energy off the bench that saw him push an offload out for Edwards' try and he has been named as the utility once again.

The Sydney Roosters favourite will also be joined on the pine by firebrands Spencer Leniu and Hudson Young in a settled side for Daley.

Haumole Olakau'atu has dropped out of the extended squad due to personal reasons.

Following Round 15, Koloamatangi has been ruled out after suffering a fractured eye socket. Jacob Preston has been called into the extended squad as his replacement.
