What is Ryan Papenhuyzen's injury?

Papenhuyzen was rested for Melbourne's Round 18 match with the Cowboys, with what was originally suspected to be calf tightness.

He then missed their following clash with the Knights, before it was confirmed he was dealing with a calf strain.

The star fullback admitted he would have to "manage" the issue through to the end of the season.

"Like any injury or niggle, you have to manage (it). I'm still managing my knee and ankle (injuries) from years ago," Papenhuyzen told 2GB's Wide World of Sports radio in mid-July.

"You just have to make sure you are putting your attention in the right places with your rehab.

"It will be something that we will focus on to make sure it doesn't flare up through the year. I can't fault what we've been doing so far process-wise.

"It is just one of those unfortunate things to happen."

Nick Meaney has filled in at fullback for four straight games.

Ryan Papenhuyzen return date

Melbourne are hopeful Papenhuyzen can return for their Round 22 game against Parramatta.

Considering his lengthy injury history, the club are being understandably cautious.

He was not risked for their Round 21 battle with the Roosters, which required a five-day turnaround from their previous match.
