Roosters star questions possibility of Daly Cherry-Evans joining the club image

Angus Crichton has joined the chorus of current and former Roosters players scratching their heads over the club’s potential move for veteran halfback Daly Cherry-Evans.

Speaking on Nine’s 100% Footy on Monday night, Crichton was candid when asked how the Manly skipper, who will turn 37 ahead of the 2026 season, might fit into a Roosters squad already stacked with emerging playmakers.

“I haven’t heard anything”

"I don't know man, I don't know," Crichton replied when quizzed on the situation. "You guys have probably heard more than me, I haven't heard anything. Obviously, he is a great player and adds value wherever he goes. I would just be disappointed if we lost any of our young guys who are doing such a great job for us."

With Sam Walker locked in long-term and both Sandon Smith and Hugo Savala impressing during Walker’s injury layoff, Crichton praised the growth of the club’s younger core.

“Sando and Hugo have been huge for us this year, and hopefully we can make sure everyone can stay,” he said.

His sentiment echoes that of Brandon Smith, whose own comments on the matter reportedly contributed to his mid-season departure. Smith told 2GB’s Wide World of Sports: “I was hoping (the money) would go towards some of the younger players… because if they don't snap them up now, they probably won't be able to keep them.”

Crichton added that players like Blake Steep, Solesi Foketi, Benaiah Ioelu, and Bobby Toia had all stepped up admirably this season, something the Bondi club shouldn’t overlook in planning for the future.
