Brisbane Broncos star Selwyn Cobbo is reportedly exploring his options beyond the 2025 season, with the South Sydney Rabbitohs unexpectedly emerging as a possible destination, though coach Wayne Bennett has firmly dismissed the rumour.

Triple M’s Greg ‘Marto’ Martin claimed the 22-year-old had held talks with Bennett about a potential switch to Redfern.

“Selwyn Cobbo has been speaking with Wayne Bennett about a move to the Rabbitohs,” Martin said on Triple M Breakfast with Marto, Margaux & Dan.

Bennett: “I haven’t had a single meeting with Selwyn”

Bennett wasted no time shutting the door on the speculation, telling The Courier-Mail, “He isn't coming to Souths. I don't know where this report has come from, but I haven't had a single meeting with Selwyn Cobbo. I don't know him. I've never met him.”

“Selwyn is a wonderful talent, but there's been no discussions for him to come here. For a start, with our salary cap the way it is, we can't afford him. Selwyn isn't going to take a pay cut to come to Souths, so it's not even an option for us anyway.”

Despite Bennett’s denial, Cobbo’s future remains uncertain. Demoted to QLD Cup last week for not meeting team standards, the outside back’s absence allowed Josiah Karapani to step up and score a double in the Broncos’ Round 15 win, making a Round 16 return for Cobbo unlikely.

While the Broncos juggle salary cap pressure and a list full of top-end contracts, rival clubs, including the Roosters and Cowboys, are expected to circle as Cobbo edges closer to the open market.
