State of Origin 2025: Queensland Maroons confirmed team list, squad news for Game 3 image

Queensland produced a trademark battling performance in Western Australia to keep the State of Origin series alive with a 26-24 win over New South Wales.

The Blues were heavily backed to get the job done in Perth and retain the shield, yet the Maroons had other ideas as they raced into a commanding first half lead before bravely holding on in the second stanza.

Billy Slater made a host of changes ahead of Game II, with Daly Cherry-Evans axed in favour of Tom Dearden. The QLD backline and forward pack was also altered as Cameron Munster was handed the captaincy in a major re-shuffle.

Attention now turns to Sydney where the Maroons will attempt to win and claim a comeback series victory against the odds.

The Sporting News provides all the latest QLD team news for Game III of the 2025 Origin series.

Maroons team news:

Kalyn Ponga experienced an underwhelming first two matches of the series and has now been replaced by Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow after suffering a foot injury in Round 17.

The Hammer's move from centre to fullback opens the door for a shock debut for Gehamat Shibasaki, who caps a remarkable rise, having joined the Broncos on a train-and-trial deal for 2025.

Many had expected Reece Walsh to get the nod at fullback went Ponga went down but he's been named 18th man.

The rest of the backline sees Xavier Coates and Valentine Holmes start on on the wings, and Robert Toia at centre.

Cameron Munster will again captain the side, alongside Tom Dearden in the halves.

Despite an improved showing in Perth, Moeaki Fotuaika has been dropped from the squad, with Slater recalling Canberra veteran Josh Papalii.

He'll partner Tino Fa’asuamaleaui in the front row, while Harry Grant will be coming in full of confidence after an impressive Game 2 outing for the dummy half.

Reuben Cotter, the recalled Kurt Capewell and the promoted Trent Loiero formed an unlikely backrow trio. However, they justified Slater's calls with Cotter his usual workhorse self and Capewell one of his state's best. They've been given the nod again.

The bench also remains as is, with Kurt Mann, Lindsay Collins, Patrick Carrigan and Jeremiah Nanai ready to be called upon.

Along with Walsh, J'maine Hopgood rounds out the 19-man team.
