The Wests Tigers are reportedly set to extend the contract of outside back Taylan May, securing the Samoan international at the club and upgrading him to a Top 30 deal.

The 24-year-old joined the Tigers mid-season this year on a train-and-trial contract and has already made four appearances for the club.

Although he has had limited opportunities on the field, May has impressed, achieving a 75 per cent winning rate and being named best on ground in two matches against the Gold Coast Titans and Manly Sea Eagles.

In those games, the former Penrith Panther has scored two tries, provided three try assists, made 18 tackle busts, completed three line breaks, and averaged 130 running metres per match.

Talks over a contract extension come after Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson flagged earlier this year that May’s contract would be reviewed at the end of the season.

According to The Daily Telegraph journalist David Riccio on Triple M radio, May is expected to meet with the Tigers this week to finalise the extension and Top 30 upgrade.

“Clearly, Taylan is a quality player who will further strengthen our squad in the back end of the competition,” Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson said earlier this year.

“But we also believe his best chance of success on and off the field is if he is around family and friends.

“He will now have the chance to not only return to a team environment but also to play alongside his brother Terrell, which is important to him.”

The move comes as the Tigers continue reshaping their roster ahead of the 2026 NRL season, following a series of signings including Ethan Roberts (Roosters), Jock Madden (Broncos), Javon Andrews (Titans), Kai Pearce-Paul (Knights), and Mavrik Geyer (Panthers).

The club has also regained star centre Starford To’a on a long-term extension and secured Adam Doueihi, who had been off-contract and linked to the St George Illawarra Dragons.
