South Sydney Rabbitohs prospect Talanoa Penitani has capped off a standout NSW Cup season by earning a contract upgrade that will see him join the NRL roster.
The 20-year old, younger brother of NRLW stars Tiana Penitani Gray and Natasha Penitani, joined the Rabbitohs at the start of the year after spending his junior career with the Cronulla Sharks.
After impressing in the NRL Pre-Season Challenge earlier this year, Penitani has maintained his strong form in the NSW Cup, averaging 106 running metres per game and tallying 23 tackle busts in just 12 appearances.
The Matraville Tigers junior will be promoted to the Rabbitohs’ development list next season, with a place in South Sydney’s Top 30 roster awaiting him in 2027.

Known for his blistering speed, sharp footwork, and knack for breaking the defensive line, the dynamic centre made his return to the field last week after a two-month injury layoff.
Penitani has credited his two older sisters, both established stars in the NRLW, for guiding his development and helping shape his career.
"My sisters have been real good. She's (Tiana) always been a step above me (and) she teaches me little stuff here and there, just giving me tips on games and positional wise," Penitani told Rabbitohs Media.
The young back has embraced life at Redfern, relishing the opportunity to learn from senior players in his position.
"The experience (at the Rabbitohs) is mad. I love coming into training and the new facilities. Everyone's looking after you, everyone's there for you...I sort of look up to the boys in my position,” he said.
"There's been a few things that I sort of came in here not knowing, and I've been taught, so just practising getting the reps in has been good.
"I'm sort of hoping to get a full and consistent season (because) I've had injuries in the past, then hopefully the main goal is to get a debut."
