NRL clubs make decision on Selwyn Cobbo pursuit image

Selwyn Cobbo’s future remains up in the air, with the Brisbane Broncos outside back now the subject of renewed interest from NRL rivals ahead of the June 30 transfer deadline.

While North Queensland and St George Illawarra have stepped up their pursuit, both the Dolphins and South Sydney have officially ruled themselves out.

The Cowboys have reportedly approached Brisbane about an immediate move for Cobbo as they search for injury cover. With Semi Valemei and Viliami Vailea sidelined, North Queensland are scanning the market for outside backs.

“There’s no doubt Selwyn is an outstanding talent”

“We have Semi Valemei and Viliami Valiea out for extended periods of time, so we are looking at everyone's list to see if there are any outside backs who can help us out,” Cowboys Football Boss Michael Luck told News Corp

“Every club is looking for good players, and there’s no doubt Selwyn is an outstanding talent.”

St George Illawarra have also held talks with Cobbo, reportedly offering a potential 18-month deal worth around $600,000 for the 2026 season. However, no formal offer has been made.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins have withdrawn their interest due to salary expectations and strong depth in the outside backs, while Wayne Bennett confirmed South Sydney were never in the mix.

Brisbane CEO Dave Donaghy told Triple M: “We are in constant dialogue with [Cobbo’s camp]… We are probably a fair way apart, but we are not without hope.”
