Three teams have opted for a complete captaincy change this season – the Bulldogs, Storm and Cowboys.

New recruit Stephen Crichton will replace the duo of Reed Mahoney and Matt Burton as Canterbury look to end their finals drought.

Star hooker Harry Grant has been promoted to the role of captain in Melbourne, taking over from Christian Welch.

At the Cowboys, Reuben Cotter and Tom Dearden are the new co-captains, with Chad Townsend and Jason Taumalolo stepping down.

In Canberra, Elliott Whitehead will assume the role as the sole club captain following the retirement of Jarrod Croker.

Ben Hunt is still the Dragons' captain despite last season's contract drama.
