While the club celebrates their win in the NSW Cup grand final at the weekend, Newtown Jets are also mourning the loss of former president Barry Vining.

Incredibly, the 85-year-old died from a heard attack while celebrating the Jets' six-point win over North Sydney.

According to 2GB, Vining was reacting to the victory when the medical episode occurred.

"We're being told through friends of Barry Vining, that at the end of the game yesterday, Barry jumped up to celebrate, he had a heart attack and he passed away," Ben Fordham said on radio on Monday.

"He was just so excited that it just literally gave him a heart attack," Vining's friend 'Rob' added.

"I don't think he could have orchestrated it any better. If he had to go, I think that would have been the way for Barry, absolutely.

"He lived for that team and that club."

Vining held the presidency of the club from 1986 to 2018, a time of significant turmoil in which the Jets' very existence was under threat.

Phil Gould paid tribute to Vining on social media following the news.
