In driving rain at Perth’s Optus Stadium, Queensland has survived a stunning second-half comeback to edge Laurie Daley’s NSW Blues, 26-24, in a thrilling Game II.

Despite outscoring the Maroons five tries to four, goal-kicking proved the difference with Blues winger Zac Lomax having a poor night, landing just two of his five conversion attempts.

His Queensland counterpart, Valentine Holmes, went five from five including a first-half penalty—ironically conceded by Lomax.

“In the end they’ve been beaten on goal kicking,” Phil Gould said bluntly post-match on Channel Nine.

Making matters worse for Lomax, he was placed on report in the 28th minute by referee, Ashley Klein, after lashing out in a tackle and striking Queensland lock, Trent Loiero, in the head with an elbow.

Loiero was sent for an HIA but was able to return.

Queensland’s win sends the 2025 State of Origin series to a decider at Sydney's Accor Stadium on July 9.
