Keano Kini is set to make his return as Titans coach Des Hasler gears up for a crucial matchup against Cronulla at Shark Park on Saturday, aiming to steer clear of the wooden spoon.

Code Sports reveals that both Kini (neck) and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui (knee) have been confirmed to play after recovering from injuries, amidst several roster changes for the Gold Coast.

Unfortunately, the Titans will be without Brian Kelly, Alofiana Khan-Pereira, and Jojo Fifita due to injuries, while Klese Haas has stepped back because of a family illness.

Kini, a standout fullback, will start from the bench, but the specifics of his playing time remain uncertain.

It seems unlikely that Kini will replace AJ Brimson at fullback, and Hasler has often utilized only 15 or 16 players throughout the season.

With numerous injuries affecting the backline last week, Hasler noted that Kini has the versatility to step into various roles in his first NRL match since round 3, following spinal surgery.

“He’s on the bench and can cover a number of positions for us,” he said.

“They are always tough encounters. We have players who can play multiple positions.”
