Keano Kini has inked a new deal with the Titans.

Gold Coast's reigning player of the year will remain with the club through to the end of 2030.

The 21-year-old has made an impressive start to his first-grade career.

Born in Auckland, he was signed by the Titans in 2020 after being scouted while playing touch footy.

He made his NRL debut off the bench in 2023.

Then, after some key player injuries, he took his opportunity at fullback the following season, going on to lock down the No. 1 jersey.

Titans coach Des Hasler is pleased the club has locked down such a promising young talent.

"Keano is still only in the early stages of his NRL career, but he’s already showed that he’s capable of having a huge impact on games," he said.

"He’s already represented his country at an International level.

"Keano’s professionalism and attitude has made him both a valued and well-liked member of the club both on and off field.

"Family is very important to Keano and he and his partner have just welcomed their first child and it’s great that they’ll be able to continue to raise their family here on the Coast."

Crucially, the contract extension provides some stability for Kini, who is currently recovering from a spinal injury.

Earlier this season, it was discovered that the star fullback's spinal cord was compressed by 10mm – just 4mm from potential paralysis, per CODE Sports.

He then underwent surgery in late March to remove a herniated disc near his spinal cord, with coach Hasler confirming it went smoothly.

The 20-year-old is now expected to return to NRL action this season, despite earlier fears he could miss the entire year.

He will be reassessed in July.

"I’m pretty lucky, it could have been a lot worse," Kini told CODE Sports in March.

"The doc said if I copped another bad hit I could have been paralysed, so I feel blessed to have found this out now before something really serious happened."
