In an Instagram post on Thursday, Ponga confirmed his commitment to the club by sharing a photo of himself celebrating with his Knights teammates.

"Committed to the end of 2027. Excited about the vision of the club. Appreciate those that support me!" he wrote.

Ponga's statement comes at a time of significant upheaval in the Knights front office, with head coach Adam O'Brien seemingly on his last legs in the Hunter.

The club has reportedly been entertaining the idea of moving O'Brien on at season's end after what has been a lacklustre 2025 campaign to this point.

With Ponga re-stating his desire to play in Newcastle, the Knights head coaching role has instantly become a more attractive position.

Ponga is currently sidelined with a lisfranc injury which will potentially end his season depending on whether or not the Knights can put together a late surge into the finals.
