The Queensland Maroons made a stunning selection decision ahead of State of Origin Game 2, axing long-time captain Daly Cherry-Evans after a disappointing first game.
In his place will start Tom Dearden, the North Queensland Cowboys star who has proved effective off the bench for the Maroons since 2022.
But while fans are divided on the choice to swap DCE with Dearden, one man who is a big believer in the decision is opposition coach Laurie Daley.
Blues coach wary of Tom Dearden after shock Origin call
Despite an impressive Game 1 win, the New South Wales Blues will look make sure they don't let their foot off the gas in the second outing.
One move that Queensland hope to revitalise their efforts with is the inclusion of Tom Dearden, a player that Blues coach Daley is making sure to look out for.
"I'm a massive Tom Dearden fan," Daley told Sky Sports' Big Sports Breakfast.
"He’s come on so much over the last 18 months as a player, and his running threat is as dangerous as anyone in the game.
"He’ll continue to take you on, and if you get lazy for one second, he’s out, and the other thing about him is he’s strong in contact, so he can bump, and what he tends to do after his bump is come back through the middle.
"If you’re tired, if you haven’t done your job, haven’t moved across, you haven’t stayed alert, he’ll find you out.
"He’s a real danger, and he’s someone that we’ll identify as a massive threat to us in Game 2."
Dearden played 27 minutes in the series opener, but will be relied on much more heavily in the second game as he replaces a Queensland legend in Cherry-Evans.
