Queensland captain Cameron Munster is mourning the loss of his father, Steven, who passed away overnight.
Maroons coach Billy Slater confirmed the tragic news on Sunday morning, offering condolences on behalf of the entire team and state.
"Unfortunately, we woke to the sad news of the passing of Cameron Munster's father, Steven Munster," said Slater.
"On behalf of myself, our footy team and the state of Queensland, we send our thoughts, our love and condolences to Steven Munster's family and friends."
Munster will temporarily step away from Origin camp to be with his loved ones before rejoining the squad ahead of Game III in Sydney.
"Cam will exit camp to be with his family before rejoining his team for the game on Wednesday," said Slater.
Slater made special mention of the Munster family, paying tribute to those closest to Steven.
The Storm and Maroons star was the best player on the field in Game II in Perth, leading his teammates to a famous Queensland win which levelled the series.
While his availability for the decider remains unchanged for now, the Maroons will prioritise Munster's wellbeing before anything else.
