After attracting strong interest from several NRL clubs, highly-rated Penrith Panthers juniors and also twin brothers Cornelius and Alexander Pupualii are set to sign a long-term deal with the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Sources close to the situation have told Zero Tackle in early July that the 16-year-old duo met with Dragons head coach Shane Flanagan, who was highly impressed by the talented brothers.

Flanagan reportedly outlined a clear development plan to the Pupualii family, including long-term plans to integrate Cornelius, a powerful 6’3" (193cm), 100kg centre, into the Dragons’ NRL backline.

Cornelius has made a name for himself in the Harold Matthews Cup, showcasing size, strength, and skill far beyond his age group.

Meanwhile, his twin brother Alexander Pupualii, a 119kg second-row forward, has also been seen as a standout prospect despite missing the current junior season due to an ACL injury.

Prior to his setback, Alexander had been a dominant force in the Panthers junior development system.

The twins were approached by several NRL clubs, including the Canberra Raiders, South Sydney Rabbitohs, Wests Tigers, Cronulla Sharks, and North Queensland Cowboys.

They ultimately chose the Dragons after being impressed with Flanagan’s vision and commitment to youth development.

The Dragons announced the signing of the twin brothers on Tuesday in a statement.

The brothers will make the transition up to SG Ball level for the 2026 season.

“I’m grateful. I just want to give back to my family. I’m ready to work hard and I’m ready to pull on this jersey,” Alexander said in the club's statement.

Cornelius added: “I have faith in this club’s coaching staff and players. There is so much history here. We’re both for the fans and can’t wait to represent them.”
