Titans provide latest update on David Fifita as star's absence continues image

Gold Coast forward David Fifita will miss this weekend’s Super Hero Sunday showdown with the Cowboys, as the Titans take a cautious approach with his recovery from ankle surgery.

Fifita, who has yet to feature since undergoing a clean-out on his ankle, had been tracking toward a potential return in Round 17.

But after receiving further treatment from the club’s medical staff last Friday, the decision was made to extend his lay-off through the upcoming bye.

The plan is now for the powerful second-rower to return in Round 19 against the Brisbane Broncos, his former club.

Titans err on side of caution with key man

The club is hopeful the added rest will help Fifita return fully fit for the back half of the season.

With the Titans looking to climb the ladder, they know how pivotal the 24-year-old is to their structure.

There was better news on the injury front elsewhere, with fullback Jaylan De Groot cleared to return from a hamstring strain.

Meanwhile, Keano Kini and Carter Gordon are both making steady progress in their long-term rehab programs. Kini could be back as early as next month, while Gordon, the rugby convert, is also on track to feature later this season.
