Axed $1m star to seek 'medical advice' on injury image

David Fifita is set for a sideline spell as he looks to treat an ongoing ankle issue.

One week after being dropped from the Titans' NRL side, the forward has been ruled out of their Round 10 clash with the Knights, and will now "seek further medical advice" on his injury.

Fifita was axed by coach Des Hasler for Magic Round following an up-and-down start to the season.

The 25-year-old, who reportedly earns $1,000,000 a season, was used off the bench in four of his six first-grade games in 2025, scoring just one try.

On Monday, rugby league journalist Danny Weidler declared that Fifita's ankle issue has partly been to blame for his disappointing form.

"At the core of it is David Fifita does have a bad ankle, and that is part of the reason he has been playing badly, or not as well as he should in a lot of his games," he said on 100% Footy.

"I think that ankle may be a bit worse than people know.

"We will see what transpires there."

Fifita lined up for Ipswich in the Queensland Cup this past weekend.

He played all 80 minutes in the second row, recording 58 metres off nine runs in the 32-0 loss to the Pride.

Despite his underwhelming attacking statistics, the 25-year-old was solid defensively, making 20 tackles and missing none.

The former Queensland Origin representative alluded to a behind-the-scenes feud following his demotion to reserve grade.

"There is a reason for why this has happened but the real truth will come out one day. Everyone doesn’t know the real story," he told News Corp last week.

"There is so much speculation, but I’m playing for Ipswich and I’ll be cheering on the Titans boys as well. I hope they win."

The Titans will also be without halfback Tom Weaver for their trip to Newcastle.

The playmaker sustained a Category 1 concussion against the Bulldogs and will sit out Round 10 due to the NRL’s return to play protocols.

Jayden Campbell, however, is set to return from his syndesmosis injury.

He will be in line to slot into the halves in place of Weaver.
