Dane Gagai will run it back with Newcastle in 2025, confirming a one-year contract extension that will see him kick off his 16th NRL season in Las Vegas next March.

The 34-year-old club stalwart, who made his debut in 2011, has now played 309 NRL games, 211 of those in Knights colours.

Known for his competitive edge and versatility, Gagai’s decision provides a timely boost for a Newcastle side looking to blend experience with youth in the upcoming campaign.

'He demands excellence': O’Sullivan backs Gagai's value

Knights Head of Recruitment Peter O’Sullivan praised Gagai’s relentless drive and leadership, both on and off the field.

“Everyone knows Dane brings experience and competitiveness to every contest, every day,” O’Sullivan said. “He has worked really hard for his extension, his tenacity to never give up and willingness to play in any position, especially through extenuating circumstances, shows his true character.”

“Dane possesses a wonderful ability to share the experience he has amassed over 309 NRL games, including 211 for the Knights, with the young emerging players. He demands excellence from them, whilst instilling them with confidence to succeed.”

“This extension complements and balances our squad perfectly for next season.”

The Knights open their 2025 season with a blockbuster trip to the US, and Gagai’s presence ensures they'll have a trusted head in the sheds when the team steps onto the Las Vegas stage.
