Returning from injury, mercurial Knights fullback Kalyn Ponga picked up where he left off.
Against the Cowboys, Ponga did everything in his power to get his team across the line as teammate Lachlan Fitzgibbon ran riot.
However, the Cowboys snuck home - but that didn't stop Ponga jumping to top spot outright.
As for his closet competitors for the medal, reigning champion Cameron Smith, dark horse Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and stagnating front-runner James Maloney all failed to grab a vote.
