The NRL Lurker's Dally M votes: Damien Cook has the chance to cap off a breakout season in style image

With the NRL taking Dally M votes behind closed doors after round 12, The Lurker has picked up the slack to hand out the 3-2-1 for every game, every week. His couch imprint is already formidable. Check out the final week of official voting here.

Strap yourselves in, we're in for a ride!

The race for the top eight makes me yawn, but the countdown to the Dally M Medal has raised a tent in my pants.

With leaders James Maloney and Kalyn Ponga stagnating through representative duties and injury respectively, a pack of household names are hunting them down.

I've pointed out the likes of Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Cameron Smith and Andrew Fifita in previous weeks, but Round 18 is all about NSW hooker Damien Cook.

Some thought he was deserving of the Wally Lewis Medal, but none would have predicted he would come this close to rugby league's most prized gong.

One man of the match performance from the dynamic rake and he could be level at the top of the tree.

Remember this bloke was playing reserve grade full-time three years ago...
