Josh Papalii is set to become the Canberra Raiders most-capped player when he takes to the field next Sunday afternoon.

The forward will break the record of 318 games set by winger-turned-forward Jason Croker against South Sydney Rabbitohs in Round 14.

Breaking the record is a feat within itself but to play so many games in the front row adds further to Papalii’s achievement.

Croker was a legend for the Green Machine playing 15 years at the club and helping them to win the 1994 Premiership.

Papalii breaking the record at GIO Stadium in front of the home fans will make it a fairytale afternoon for the prop.

It was against the Rabbitohs where Papalii had his biggest moment. He scored the match-winning try to send the Raiders to the 2019 Grand Final.

Ultimately, their quest would end in failure by losing the decider 14-8 against the Sydney Roosters side.

He has been a mainstay at the Raiders since joining in 2011 and is only the third to surpass 300 games alongside Jason Croker and Jarrod Croker.

Those three represent one per cent of games played at the Canberra Raiders since their inception in 1982 which underlines the feat.

Alongside his 318 club games, Papalii has also represented Australia, Samoa and Queensland 44 times across his career.

Papalii has been described as the “heart and soul” of the club by CEO Don Furner and a fitting person to hold the appearances record.

This record has been in sight for some time. Another club legend and teammate Jarrod Croker finished with 307 games, just twelve short due to injuries.

The Raiders will have celebrations before and after the clash for Papalii including a guard of honour, ball presentation by Croker and limited-edition merchandise for those in attendance.
