Cameron Murray is on the verge of completing an inspirational comeback for South Sydney.
The Rabbitohs skipper has yet to lace the boots up this year after he ruptured his Achilles during the pre-season.
The issue was set to sideline him for the entirety of the campaign before he also experienced a setback during his rehabilitation.
However, in a stunning turn of events, the New South Wales and Australia representative is now closing in on a return.

Cam Murray closes in on ‘remarkable’ return as Aussie selection looms large
"I know he’s every chance," Jai Arrow responded when questioned on the skipper’s potential return before the season’s end.
"It’s just a matter of him talking to the medical professionals and when he feels right, I’m sure he’ll make a decision on when he wants to come back.
"I think he’s the type of person who will make the right decision on coming back at the right time."
The Rabbitohs started life under Wayne Bennett in impressive fashion as they won four of their opening five matches, despite losing Murray and Latrell Mitchell to injuries in the pre-season.
The two stars went down within a short period of time and, unfortunately, this proved to be a sign of things to come at Redfern this year.
The Bunnies have constantly battled a dreadful injury toll, with the likes of Mitchell, Campbell Graham, Cody Walker, Keaon Koloamatangi and Tevita Tatola all sidelined for extended periods throughout the campaign.
Yet while his teammates have all gone down around him and the Bunnies have slipped towards the bottom end of the ladder, Murray has continued to plug away behind the scenes.
The 27-year-old has now got himself to the point where he could help his club in the final game or two.
"It’s quite normal for Cam,"Arrow said.
"He’s someone who is the ultimate professional and the ultimate athlete.
"He’s actually quite remarkable when you see him going through the rehab process.
"It’s obviously a tough one, but it’s nothing new for us because we see it every day with him," Arrow continued.
"It’s quite a remarkable thing that he’s on the verge of playing footy."
The forward remains at the forefront of Kevin Walters’ mind for the Kangaroos, such is his standing in the game.
The former Brisbane mentor will take charge of the Aussies for the upcoming three-game Ashes series in England.
And he revealed last week that he would include Murray in his squad if the Souths star is able to make even one appearance in the NRL.
"Forty minutes of football," Walters declared when asked how long he would be required to see Murray play before selecting him.
"I am really excited to see him come back and play and put himself in the picture and in the frame because we're all aware of his talents.
"I am sure if he can get back on the field and play somewhere near where he has shown he can play, then he makes most rep teams."
