The Brisbane Broncos have secured the services of one of New Zealand’s most exciting young talents, signing 17-year-old Calvin Harris-Tavita to their academy programme.

A dual-code standout and younger brother of former Warriors playmaker Chanel Harris-Tavita, Calvin is already making waves across both rugby league and union.

The teenage halfback, still based in Auckland, continues to attend Kings’ College, one of New Zealand’s most prestigious schools, where he recently earned promotion to the First XV in rugby union.

But it’s on the league field where his electric style has drawn serious attention. Harris-Tavita was recently named in the U17s ANZRL Team of the Tournament and has long been touted as one to watch.

“The next Benji Marshall”

As far back as 2022, New Zealand Maori Rugby League chairman John Devonshire flagged Calvin’s potential, saying:

“He is the next Benji Marshall to be honest. He is that good. I haven't seen someone as exciting as he is for many, many years. Especially as a seven.”

His signing is a significant coup for the Broncos, particularly given he was expected by many to follow his brother into the Warriors system.

With his schooling continuing in New Zealand, Harris-Tavita is expected to link with the Broncos Academy remotely and during school breaks.
