Leeds Rhinos sporting director Ian Blease has confirmed that a key decision on Brad Arthur’s coaching future is expected within the next month, as the former Parramatta boss continues to weigh up whether to stay in the UK or chase a return to the NRL.
Arthur, who was previously in the frame for the now-closed Perth Bears bid, has kept his options open since arriving at Leeds. While he’s publicly expressed a willingness to remain with the Rhinos if he’s happy in England, his preference remains a long-term return to Australia and his family.
Blease told Sky Sports’ The Bench podcast that a frank conversation is looming.
“I think within the next month or so we need – me and him – to have a professional, honest and open conversation. What’s it looking like – because I’m looking at 2027 for recruitment now,” Blease said.
“He would still take an NRL job at some point. My job is to convince him to stay here.”

‘Players are convincing him bit by bit’
The Rhinos’ strong form in the Super League could help tip the scales. Arthur, Blease says, has been increasingly impressed by his squad.
“Players are convincing him bit by bit, I think,” he added. “He’ll have a decision to make, and we all will pretty soon.”
If Arthur stays, it’s likely to be on a one-year deal for 2026, with the option of extending into 2027. Whether that option rests with the club or the coach remains part of ongoing negotiations.
