Brad Arthur signs new Leeds Rhinos contract but NRL return remains on the cards image

Brad Arthur has ended months of speculation over his future by signing a new deal to stay as Leeds Rhinos head coach until at least the end of 2026 – but the contract structure leaves the door open for a possible return to the NRL further down the line.

The Australian, who took charge just over a year ago, has revitalised the West Yorkshire club into genuine play-off contenders. Leeds currently sit fifth in the table, level on points with St Helens and just four points adrift of second-placed Wigan Warriors.

The new agreement includes a rolling option beyond 2026, subject to all parties agreeing, allowing Arthur and the club flexibility should family commitments draw him back to Australia.

‘I am really pleased to be staying here’

The 50-year-old gaffer said: “I am really pleased to be staying here at the Rhinos. My family and I have been made to feel so welcome since the first day I walked in the door at AMT Headingley, and I am excited about what this group of players can achieve."

"I always said from the outset that I only wanted to be here if I felt I could help make the team better and have an impact on this group of players,” Arthur added.

Rhinos sporting director Ian Blease hailed the decision, calling Arthur “a man of his word” and praising his impact on developing young players and setting higher standards across the squad.

With another pre-season ahead under Arthur’s leadership, Leeds will hope the momentum built in his first year can carry them closer to silverware, even as the possibility of an NRL return in future remains.
