Things just keep getting better for in-form Brisbane Broncos centre, Gehamat Shibasaki.
Fresh of his third NRL try double of the season in Saturday’s win over the Warriors, The Courier Mail is reporting the 27-year-old will today be named by Queensland coach Billy Slater to make his Maroons debut in next week’s State of Origin decider.
Resisting the temptation to select Reece Walsh in place of the injured Kalyn Ponga, Slater has instead opted for a backline reshuffle—with Walsh’s Broncos teammate Shibasaki the primary beneficiary.
It completes a remarkable turnaround for a player who didn’t think he’d even be playing NRL in 2025, let alone Origin.

Dolphins flyer Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow will move into the Maroons number one jersey, with Shibasaki to partner Roosters youngster Robert Toia in one the most inexperienced centre pairings in State of Origin history.
Reece Walsh is set to enter camp as Queensland’s 18th man.
Shibasaki becomes Maroon #236, and the fifth debutant for Billy Slater’s side in the 2025 series.
