'He got it right tonight': Bennett heaps praise on Mitchell after game-winning effort image

A Latrell Mitchell masterpiece was the catalyst for an improbable Rabbitohs victory Friday night, as the team broke a four-game losing streak.

After going down 14-0 at half-time, South Sydney put on a show after the break to run away with the victory, punctuated by a mind-blowing field goal from the halfway line from Mitchell to put the team up two.

Following the win, Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett explained exactly why his star fullback was the perfect man to win them this game.

Latrell Mitchell's fingerprints were all over the Rabbitohs win in Round 10, from his goal-kicking to his try-stopping tackle, as well as the now-viral game-winning two point field goal.

On a night where Mitchell was seemingly everywhere - even scoring a cheeky try as time expired - his coach Bennett spoke about how important he is to the team.

"He just does what Latrell can do, what makes him such a special player," Bennett said.

"He takes that responsibility very seriously, being captain of the team and the high profile player that he is he expects that from himself all the time.

"It hasn’t been coming for him but he got it right tonight."

As well as the win, Mitchell's performance also helps solidify what is already a fairly undeniable case for the Rabbitohs captain to pull on the NSW jersey for the season's first State of Origin game.
